Safety Unit Vocabulary List

Please click HERE to view the Safety unit word list.

Please review the terms; you can find definitions in your text. We strongly suggest you print out the booklet, locate the definitions, and then write them down. You can then use this as a study tool for Monday's exam.

Thanks,

Safety Practice Exam

Now that you have reviewed the NOCTI test interface and are comfortable with the procedure you'll follow for the exam, you may wish to review some sample test questions that are similar to those you will find on the Safety exam.

To ensure peak performance on the upcoming exam, please take the following steps:

1. Review your notes, the text book, and the Mind-Sight activities from the Safety unit.
2. Go to http://www.matc.edu/wisconsinmssc/printabledocs/safetyassessment/43560_61377.htm and print out the test questions and answer key.
3. Put the answer key in a location where you can not view it.
4. Go to a quiet room away from distractions, armed with only a pencil.
5. Take the practice exam you printed out in step No. 2.
6. Grade your exam.
7. Review all answers, even those you got right.
8. Repeat Step 1 until you are comfortable with the material.
9. Relax.
10. Come in to class well rested and ready to ace that exam.

Most of you will pass the exam. Some of you will not, and if you don't, no worries. You can re-test in 14 days, and you can re-test as many times as it takes to pass the exam (with a 14 day waiting period between attempts). However, retakes are not covered by our US Dept. of Labor grant, and cost $40/each, which is the price we pay for the exams.

Once you pass the exam, your score will be sent to the MSSC, and they will send a nice certificate in about six to 12 weeks. You will receive a certificate after passing each exam; once all four are passed, you'll receive a Certified Production Technician certificate that you can not only frame, but walk down here to SCF or PSC (or eight other colleges in Florida) and articulate up to 15 credit hours towards your AS degree in Engineering Technology.

Good luck, gang. If you have questions while you are studying, please feel free to reach out to any of the team.

Testing Procedures

OK, gang, our first test is upon us. Most of you will be meeting at your normal class location, where we'll review the Safety unit briefly, and then we'll get into the exam. You will be given 90 minutes to complete the computer-based exam.

Your instructor will not be in the classroom with you; however, you will have a proctor. The proctor will review the testing procedures, and will let you know that he or she can DEFINE any unfamiliar terms you encounter. The proctor cannot answer any content questions, however (for example, "What does OSHA stand for?" or "What is an example of PPE?")

You are not permitted to use your books or notes to help you with the exam, although you can have scratch paper and are permitted to bring a basic calculator. No graphing or scientific calculators are permitted. Note that there is little to no math on the safety exam, but the calculator rules apply to all exams.

The third-party test provider the MSSC uses for the exams is The Whitener group. To take a practice test on the Whitener Group's website, follow the steps below. Please note that the practice test is not actually scored; it is only presented so you can see the layout and functionality of the actual exam.

To Access Practice NOCTI Exam
1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer. Other browsers will NOT work.
2. Turn off all pop-up blockers.
3. Go to http://testing.noctibusiness.com/
4. Click Verify Computer is Ready for Testing. The Practice Only login screen will be displayed.
5. Enter 8888 in the Site Code field.
6. Enter MSSC1234 in the Practice Test Password field. See image below.
7. Click Login. Several messages will be displayed letting you know your browser is being checked for compatibility.
8. Answer the 20 questions. Note the field labeled Mark can be checked for those test questions you wish to review again prior to submitting your answers. (This functionality will be available on the actual exam; it is not enabled for this test exam.)
9. When you are completed, a score report will be displayed that shows a score of 85.2% for a fictitious tester named Buffy Bagel. Buffy's score is displayed regardless of the answers you have chosen.

NOTE: Although this practice exam has 20 questions that cover several topic areas and is meant only to show you how the exam will work technically, many of the questions are similar to what you will see on the exam. It will be beneficial to review the safety-related questions and our class materials to ensure you know the correct answers.
