Local Workers Take Advantage of SCF’s Advanced Manufacturing Training

See story with art at this link.

(Bradenton, Fla., January 18, 2012) — The first employees to complete a training program offered by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) through the Engineering, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing (ETAM) grant project were recognized at a recent event held at Teak Decking’s Sarasota headquarters.
The seven TeakDecking Systems employees were among 42 participants that have enrolled in an 80-hour technology-based course designed to provide instruction in advanced manufacturing content including workplace essentials, safety, production, processes, maintenance, and quality awareness.
In an articulation agreement that is the first of its kind in Florida, participants that complete training and pass required examinations receive a nationally recognized Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) certificate that can be used to obtain 15 credit hours toward an Associate in Science degree in Engineering Technology at SCF. Since the inception of this articulation agreement, the Florida Department of Education has approved more than 100 similar industry certification articulation agreements.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, the program gives local entry-level workers the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills and earn certifications and college credits to expand future career opportunities.
A renewed emphasis on manufacturing education recognizes that the industry requires higher skills for employees working in modern, clean production facilities equipped with advanced technology.
